Hammerhead: Shark Frenzy - also released as SharkMan – is a 2005 Sci-Fi Channel original movie, written by Kenneth M. Badish and Boaz Davidson, and directed by Michael Oblowitz. The film stars William Forsythe, Hunter Tylo, and horror movie regular Jeffrey Combs.
In a creative stroke of genetic genius, Dr. Preston King, a bio-scientist, looks to save his son from terminal pancreatic butt rot and stem-cell engineers him into a two-legged half man/half Hammerhead shark.
Sharks, as those of us with extensive medical/fish backgrounds know, are impervious to cancer, so it stands to reason that once converted into said eating machine, the shark juice coursing through his gills could eradicate the disease. But there’s more sickness than meets the pancreas.
Dr. King, inviting all the other scientific doctors who couldn’t cure his son to his island retreat on the pretext of drinking alcohol from hollowed-out coconut shells, intends to revenge-feed them all to his toothy creation. Cool. Better still, shark boy’s ex-girlfriend is being spared for breeding purposes. Sweet. King’s lab is filled with the bodies of partially naked chicks and mutated shark fetuses from early attempts at making a new species. Awesome.
However, Johnny Chew is feeling a bit repressed, so he escapes and goes after EVERYONE. When he finds everyone, he tears into ’em as though they were a chunk of tender science jerky. Arms, legs, torsos – you might as well call it what it is: an all-you-can-eat seafood brunch.
Things get oh so sexy when the ex is lathered up with fish lotion and strapped to a special table that will facilitate the shark/human breeding process. Only thing missing is a few candles, some soft music and a 16 oz. can of malt liquor. Even though we don’t get to see nature take its course, there is a LOT of blood and strewn body parts.
The hybrid monster in Hammerhead: Shark Frenzy is just too cool for words. Sure it looks kinda doofy and bug-eyed. Who doesn’t? That he chomps his way through almost the entire cast (and probably crew) is good enough for me.
