ojuju-2014-nigerian-horror-movie-c-j-fiery-obasi

Ojuju is a no-budget Nigerian horror-thriller film written, directed and edited by C.J. “Fiery” Obasi, starring Gabriel Afolayan, Omowunmi Dada, and Kelechi Udegbe. Ojuju premiered at the 4th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it won the award for Best Nigerian Movie.

Official plot teaser:

Romero’s (Gabriel Afolayan) neighbourhood is in trouble. People are suddenly manifesting symptoms of rabid river blindness . With his friends, Emmy (Kelechi Udegbe) and Peju (Omawunmi Dada) he struggles to understand how the neighbourhood’s sole source of water supply could have been infected. However, there’s no time to ponder because they all must survive and fight their way through to escape the infested neighbourhood…

Review:

“Yes, Ojuju is – for all intents and purposes – a zombie film, one that follows all the basic tenets of the sub-genre albeit with budget constraints tight enough to limit the scope of gore, creature makeup and action and place a stronger emphasis on the characters and neighborhood. Which is absolutely fine, really, given that these elements all play to Obasi’s strengths as a director. What Ojuju lacks in scope and polish it makes up in authenticity and compelling characters. The rhythm of the neighborhood, with Obasi presenting multiple intersecting storylines and characters.” Todd Brown, Twitch Film
